FAQs

1) What types of UV am I protected against when using ARLOE’s sunscreen?

You are protected against UVA, UVB & UVC blue light. This means we offer broad spectrum protection with an SPF of 50.

2) Why is it important to wear sunscreen?

There are three types of UV radiation, categorised by wavelength: UVA, UVB and UVC.

  • UVA can cause sunburn, DNA (cell) damage in the skin and skin cancer.
  • UVB causes skin damage and skin cancer. Ozone stops most UVB from reaching the earth’s surface, about 15% is transmitted.
  • UVC is the most dangerous type of UV. Ozone in the atmosphere absorbs all UVC and it does not reach the earth’s surface.

ARLOE’s sunscreen protects against all three types of UV.

“Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the invisible killer that you can't see or feel. UV radiation can be high even on cool and overcast days. This means you can't rely on clear skies or high temperatures to determine when you need to protect yourself from the sun.

Exposure to UV radiation from the sun and other sources, such as solariums, is the major cause of skin cancer. Australia has some of the highest levels of UV radiation in the world – in fact, UV radiation is strong enough to cause sunburn in as little as 11 minutes on a fine summer day.

UV radiation from the sun is also one of the best natural sources for vitamin D so a balance is important.”

3) Why is it important to use a Non nano zinc formulated sunscreen?

Non Nano Zinc refers to the size of the zinc. Our zinc is larger and therefore will not penetrate the skin. Zinc IS the only safe and reliable sun protection for you and your family. Zinc is a vital mineral for almost every cell in our body and has also been used for thousands of years because of its healing and regenerative properties. It is also the safest option for marine and coral reefs making our sunscreen Reef safe.

4) Can I use these sunscreens if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes, all our sunscreens are pregnancy and breastfeeding safe.

5) I have sensitive skin, which SPF is suitable?

Both our sunscreens have been dermatologically tested to ensure they do not irritate sensitive skin. The first thing you need to ask yourself is

‘Where am I most likely to use the SPF?’

If you are wanting a face SPF our 3 in 1 SPF contains jojoba oil to nourish the skin as well as a variety of plant extracts that support the skin and the skin barrier. The calendula, for example, naturally has a calming effect on inflamed skin so if this is you, these plant extracts would support your skin and encourage the healing of skin inflammation. In addition to this, if you are prone to acne, the Hinokitiol plant extract within our 3 in 1 would be highly beneficial.

If you are looking for a base sunscreen for your face and body then we recommend Bambini. It is a simplified formula offering SPF 50 protection.
